Philippians 2:6-11
New Revised Standard Version Updated Edition
6 who, though he existed in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be grasped,(A)
7 but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
assuming human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a human,(B)
8 he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross.(C)
9 Therefore God exalted him even more highly
and gave him the name
that is above every other name,(D)
10 so that at the name given to Jesus
every knee should bend,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,(E)
11 and every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.(F)
Philippians 2:6-11
Contemporary English Version
6 Christ was truly God.
But he did not try to remain[a]
equal with God.
7 Instead he gave up everything[b]
and became a slave,
when he became
like one of us.
8 Christ was humble.
He obeyed God and even died
on a cross.
9 Then God gave Christ
the highest place
and honored his name
above all others.
10 (A) So at the name of Jesus
everyone will bow down,
those in heaven, on earth,
and under the earth.
11 And to the glory
of God the Father
everyone will openly agree,
“Jesus Christ is Lord!”
